Posting Expectations
One thing that has always been a source of annoyance over the years is the fact that I go to the trouble to create and communicate my class expectations to students, only for them never to think about them again. It is understandable, since every student has so many teachers, and it is difficult to keep each teacher's expectations separate from the others. This semester I decided to post six of my more important expectations on the wall of my classroom so that students will constantly be reminded of them. These include absences (you are still responsible for what is due at the next class on time), retakes on tests and quizzes, and a few other things. Even though it is early, I have yet to have a student use the excuse, "I didn't know." Anything to help students become more responsible (unlike me, since this is my first post since November....).
