Jumping on the Wiki Wagon
I have spent the last few weeks developing an online study guide for my econ classes on Wikispaces. Today I finally introduced it to my classes. They appear to be open to the idea of a collaborative study guide. One concern that instantly surfaced in my first class was regarding incorrect information showing up on the study guide. I told them three things: First, each student needs to add information only when they are certain they understand it correctly. Second, every student should be on the lookout for incorrect information, and either correct it or flag it so that someone else can correct it. Third, I will try to monitor the study guide periodically and flag any incorrect information that I detect. In order to invite the students to join, I opened a blank Word document and had students type in their e-mail addresses. Now all I have to do is copy and paste them so that I can invite everyone. The other thing I did was solicit volunteers in each class to get it started over the weekend. Hopefully on Tuesday I will be able to show the classes what has been done so far, and other students will feel more willing to contribute.
